What can we learn from small children?

My 1 year old daughter is a true inspiration to me - I love spending time with her and see her doing small new things and evolve.

It's amazing that a child that young can learn to coordinate her movements and start walking. Mind-blowing!

Here are couple of things that any father/businessman can/should learn...

Never be afraid to try

Trying is the first requisite of success. No, it’s not that hard to try - lower your expectations and you’ll increase your chances of success. Watch a baby letting that hand go and take a first step by himself/herself.

"God doesn't require us to succeed; he only requires that you try." Mother Teresa

Ask for help

Generally, people don’t like to ask for help because of their ego - they see this as an acceptance of their weaknesses. It is the human(animal) nature to try and break it on your own and claim victory for yourself.

Be less selfish & ask for help! Your collegues, family or even strangers are more than happy to help!

"All you have to do is Ask!"

Be always on the move

Have you ever watched a child walk in the first week?! They will let one thing go and won't stop until they reach something else to hang on. They discovered one golden rule: You need to move if you want to keep your balance.

Same applies to businesses everywhere - you’ll always need to be on the move, always experimenting with new technologies, new ideas, new solutions or partners. Nothing is too crazy until proven so...

"It is always your next move." Napoleon Hill

There is no spoon

Things are not what they seem to be - a 1 year-old obeys no rules (well apart from nature rules) and for her everything is possible and within reach.

There is no reason not to bend the rules, to find new creative ways to circumvent barriers. If someone closes the door in front of you, look for another entrance.

"Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Spoon boy: There is no spoon.
Neo: There is no spoon?
Spoon boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself."

The Matrix

Smile

Life is short! Yes, we all have a millions of problems to solve, tons of debt and a demanding boss but that shouldn't stop up smilling!

"The robbed that smiles, steals something from the thief." William Shakespeare, Othello

Reward yourself

This is the best lesson and I've left it last. My daughter loves to clap at herself when she does something funny or new. She clapped at herself first time she used a potty.

Please, please, please remember... Congratulate yourself, clap at yourself, pat yourself on the back, reward yourself.

GOOD LUCK!
